I have created this petition after months of being
subjected to and reading about other mothers being subjected to abuse and/or
ridicule for breastfeeding their children in public.
I want the NHS and Government to create an advertising campaign that aims to
educate people on the facts of breastfeeding BUT also on the laws protecting
breastfeeding mothers.
How many times a day do you see an advert on TV/Online/Print promoting formula
milk? Compare that with how many times a day you see an advert promoting breastfeeding.
It is wrong and needs to be changed.
I gave birth to my son 7.5 months ago and have breastfed the whole time however
the number of occasions I have either had negative comments or offensive looks
is uncountable. I, fortunately, have an amazing support network or I am 100%
sure I would have given up by now. Unfortunately, not everyone is as lucky as
myself. Not even all health professionals/midwives assist a mother properly in
her breastfeeding journey. Again, It has to change.

So true. If formula is advertised on TV then so should breastfeeding! Breastfeeding is FREE and has so many health benefits - supporting it is recession busting & will help support a struggling nhs. No brainer.
36 years after I breastfed my child discreetly in a cafe and was removed for doing so, it's way past time for change. Breasts are for breastfeeding, there is nothing sordid in doing what is the most natural thing on earth.
breast is best, choosing the healthy, natural way to feed a baby should be commended not discriminated against. It is already against the law to discriminate against women feeding babies (regardless of method). Maybe people need to be made more aware of that as well.
As a mother who resorted to bottles when I took my first daughter out due to negative comments I will certainly not be doing this time around, I wish more people would realise its just a natural thing to do and not make mothers feel bad for providing the best for their baby
absolutely agree with this. We need more education, more support and more publicity showcasing the benefits and laws of breastfeeding. all too often do us mothers suffer from shallow minded comments and glares.
I think women should be able to breastfeed with out being ridiculed.
I'm a Breastfeeding mum, my son is 5 months and up to press I've had no problems! But I'm aware of issues raised and people should be more accepting, it's the most natural thing in the world! We do have to remember mind, that not all mums can do it x

I support the right to feed in public without discrimination. I also understand that the law supports feeding in public up to six months however you do not start weaning till six months, and breastfeeding doesn't instantly stop at this stage, and I would like for it to be recognised in public beyond the six monh stage.
