When I was in elementary school, my friends and I would pretend to be Disney princesses during recess. Most of them were white and each somewhat resembled a Disney princess. I always wanted to be Belle, or Aurora, or Ariel but I was instead given the options of Jasmine, Pocahontas, or Mulan because I looked more like them, as I am mixed race. Although this may seem like it's not a big deal, it truly hurt me as a young girl. It was hard being different. I firmly believe that a Disney princess of mixed heritage should be created to give young girls a character to look up to and relate to
I am the black mother or a mixed race daughter and I would absolutely LOVE for her to have a Disney princess that she can identify with on this level as she grows older!
