PETITION: Conduct a Proper Superintendent Search for Lynnfield Public Schools

We, the undersigned residents of Lynnfield, respectfully urge the School Committee to launch a formal, transparent, and community-inclusive search for a permanent Superintendent of Schools before October 1, 2025—the date by which the current interim contract will automatically renew.
In 2024, the School Committee bypassed a public search and appointed the current Superintendent—our town’s Chief Financial Officer—who had no prior experience as a school administrator or district leader. While he may grow into the role, the stakes are too high to rely on potential alone. This is not about any one person. It’s about process, qualifications, and ensuring the best outcome for Lynnfield’s students.
Lynnfield has long taken pride in the strength of its schools. But strong schools require strong leadership. That means someone with deep educational experience—someone who knows how to build academic programs, support teachers, engage families, and navigate complex policy, staffing, and curriculum challenges. We can’t afford a learning curve at the top.
Meanwhile, our district is facing real challenges:
• We are being asked to approve a Proposition 2½ override just to maintain existing services—despite budget planning that overlooked several critical resource needs raised by school principals.
• No long-term plan has been presented for how we’ll recover from years of underfunding or make the improvements our schools need.
• Communication and transparency have been inconsistent, leaving families with more questions than answers.
At this pivotal moment, Lynnfield must prioritize expertise and future-focused leadership. A full, open search will:
✅ Attract the most qualified candidates
✅ Give staff, families, and taxpayers a voice in the process
✅ Reinforce the School Committee’s commitment to transparency and accountability
Our goal is simple: ensure that the best person is leading our schools—not just the most convenient option.
Please sign this petition to show your support for a proper search. Our students, educators, and community deserve no less.
