We the undersigned residents of Westport Massachusetts
respectfully request that the decision regarding the hiring of a new
Superintendent for the Westport Community Schools be delayed until AFTER
town elections in April of 2018. Most importantly we ask for this to be
an open and transparent process. We ask that the community be engaged
and welcomed into the process. Communication is critical.
We ask that the incoming School Committee members, who will be elected
in April and will serve with the incoming superintendent, be given the
opportunity to be a part of the decision process, as this will affect
the future of the Westport Community Schools. In addition, we feel
strongly that this process should not be rushed to ensure that adequate
time is spent on the search and procurement of a qualified candidate to
serve our community.

The response to this request has been overwhelming and it shows just how many of us feel that the current timeline is a mistake. I am exhausted by the lack of transparency, but knowing that so many neighbors demand a seat at the table gives me the strength to keep pushing.

Waiting is the wise way to go. The election allows the Town voters to weigh in on search issues.
I am a teacher at MAC and I agree 100% that the decision on our Superintendent should definitely not be rushed. Please listen to the people in the community and wait.
This decision process needs to be as painstaking, transparent, thorough, and patient as the school building initiative has been. The appointment of a new Superintendent is just as important as the new school!
In my opinion, the sub committee selection should also be reviewed by the confirmed/to be elected committee. It seems that the chair took grat considerations to appoint her vice chair, to ensure her part in the process, in the event She is unseated, while eliminating the participation of another member. Also, as noted in previous comments, the newly elected committee will the ones working with the superintendent to establish policies, so it only makes sense hat they are involved in the process of selection. Feb 28 - check out the meeting video for yourself (start at 1hr 35 min). This process is just starting (not near the end), so there should not be a purposeful rush to appoint the superintendent just so it’s done by the current committee.
Putting up the front that you are engaging professional academics to assist with the search, only to rush it so the "old" SC can make the call on who will run going forward make no sense. Not continuing with Ann Dargon makes not sense. Shameful.
