Paddle Captains

Based on the recent actions taken by the Board, we are circulating a petition to attempt to have Bjorn reinstated as our Paddle Pro. I have attached a copy of the petition and would like to ask that you circulate it to the members of your team to sign if you believe that Bjorn should be given a second chance. We believe that Bjorn has gotten the message and that there would not be any instances for doubt in the future about Bjorn's integrity.

If you are uncomfortable helping with this effort, please don't think twice about it. Just let me know and I will ask someone else on your team to take the lead. Additionally, there should not be any pressure applied to anyone on your team regarding signing or not signing the petition. I'm sure there are opposing points of view regarding this charged issue.

If you are willing to assist with this effort, please print a copy of the attached document and circulate it among your team members as soon as possible.

Please also know that the same Petition is being circulated to the women league captain's as well so that both mens' and womens' teams will be united in the message we'd like to send to the Board.

We would like to get the petitions signed and to Harold Dawson by the end of the weekend or early next week.

Please let me know when you think you have all the signatures you're going to get and I can swing by and pick up the Petition from you or meet you at the Hut to pick it up.

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or feel uncomfortable circulating this to the members of your team for signature. Also, it would be great if you could acknowledge receipt of this email so that I know your team is covered.

Thanks in advance for your effort.

Bjorn deserves another chance. I understand why the Board made the original decision. However, based on what has happened since, it seems clear that Bjorn is well loved and many members feel passionately about his reinstatement (including me). I would hate to see this tear the club apart. And I would hate to be in his replacement’s shoes. Give him another chance. If he violates his contract again I’m sure you will have the full support of all members. But as the current situation stands, a second chance is warranted and I believe best for the club as a whole.

By signing this we do not mean to undermine the board's authority, as we recognize it is their responsibility to handle these decisions. As there is no way for us to know all the accurate details surrounding this situation, we just want to express that we think Bjorn has been a very positive force for the paddle program and because he is so well liked and has done such a good job, if there is a way to keep him as our pro, we think it would be a positive thing for Tennaqua. We will, of course respect the board's decision.

I too believe as another member previously stated, that oftentimes serving on a board is a thankless job requiring tough calls being made. While I understand the decision to terminate Bjorn's employment, I am not necessarily convinced it is the right one for Tennaqua. Based on the information provided to me, I support the petition so that a review of the decision can be addressed and determined if it is in fact, in the best interest of our club.

Bjorn is a good person. Deserves a second chance. I offered him cash once, he said it had to bill through the club.

I respect and appreciate all the work the board does, but I disagree with this decision. The risk of the contract violation happening again is zero.

Should have never been allowed to happen this way. In a business environment the employee would first be formally counseled and the episode documented with actions and consequences fully understood by all parties.

In my experience, Bjorn has demonstrated kindness, encouragement, and skill. He made a mistake that does not reflect the full positive extent of his character. I approve of the Board and Lindsey
