We, the undersigned, understand that after many years of occasional use for community events made possible by the public spiritedness of the Hatches, their property at the corner of Brown and Short roads in the hamlet of West Danby is now for sale. Given its strategic location, its use historically as public recreational space when rented for the purpose by the Town prior to the current ownership, and the greatly expanded potential uses were it available once again for public use, we the undersigned support the acquisition of the Hatch property at the corner of Brown and Short roads in the hamlet of West Danby for use as a public recreational space owned and administered by the Danby Community Park Association, a registered non-profit.

The Hatch Pavilion area has been the site of so many happy gatherings over the years, it would be unfortunate to have it converted to congested housing. It's a space that offers a lovely, safe, and convenient location for town picnics, kids' ball games, and other activities that foster a sense of community among neighbors. Trying to shoehorn in multiple dwellings in this small area would remove the existing, well-designed green space and change the much-loved rural quality of the corner of Brown and Short roads, a stretch of road along which many of my neighbors enjoy strolling, walking their dogs, and riding bikes or horses. Increased traffic would be a big mistake.

I think it would be great to have this piece of land as a permanent park in West Danby. It has been used for so many picnics and social activities over the years, and it would be a shame to lose that.

I support the purchase of this property. It's a great way to conserve green space, provide a safe place for our community kids, and a great central gathering location.
