PETITION FOR THE REDESIGNING OF ATTACK ON TITAN SEASON 4 AND THE REMAKING OF THE SEASON WITHIN THE PREVIOUS QUALITY STANDARTS FOR THE FRANCHISE

GOAL:

We, the fans of Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) created by Hajime Isayama, come together to make this petition for the remaking of the most recent season, still in production. The “Final Season”’s quality greatly decreased in comparison to the production quality of the previous seasons, which makes it unbearable for the fans to watch. A truly heartbreaking situation as many anime lovers consider Shingeki no Kyojin their favourite anime and have been following the series since its debut in 2013.

ARGUMENTS:

• Character Designs:

The new character designs are cartoonish and childlike, with rounder lines and less detailed strokes the characters don’t seem to belong in a Japanese anime, as they don’t follow the classic Anime Style, instead they seem to belong to a western 90’s animation aimed to a much younger viewership. The change is extremely distracting and makes this new season feels completely misplaced, as if is not an Attack on Titan series or even a Japanese Anime.

• The Lack of Color and General Visual Quality:

The Color Palette in this new season is completely bland, with the overuse of beige, brick and dirt tones and a very limited color system that eliminates whites and blacks and washes out the colors in every frame, which could be either a stylistic choice or, more likely, a production tactic as a way to render episodes quickly. Of course this poor choice of color and illumination goes against the main tag-line of the show, which says “The World is Cruel, but also Beautiful”, Attack on Titan is a series famous for their breathtaking visuals which much contribute for the gravitas of the story.

• Lower Frames per Seconds and Overuse of 3D Animation:

The New Season features a lower 8fps (frames per second) which further displays the low quality of the production as regular animation should have between 12 and 24fps. The lower quality of render added with the lower amount of frames per second is dreadful to watch and it’s only made worse by the unnecessary overuse of 3D Animation that is also badly rendered making the Anime look extremely cheap and unfinished. An Anime that was highly praised for the amazing production quality it once had, critically acclaimed outside of the anime bubble by all kinds in the Entertainment Industry, now is downgraded to a mediocre status with unwatchable material.

• Generic Soundtrack, Poor Direction and Lack of Heart:

The main problem with this new season seems to mainly be the creative drive and lack of focus of the team involved. From the beginnings of their pre-production it seems as if the people involved have no interest for the source material. The team's disinterest is shown in the Final Product. A bland, tasteless season with no heart or drive, a story with no pace, no character drive, without any iconic moments of the likes seen in previous seasons, this is all reflected in the extremely generic soundtrack. All of it is truly a shame, the Attack on Titan Soundtrack was a big part of the show, a true art piece, like many other iconic shows and films, SnK OST was always a much-awaited track, every season, and now it’s just a generic piece, with no soul, which in fairness perfectly reflects this heartless season.

WE HOPE FOR:

• A Better Creative Team:

We ask Production IG and The Attack On Titan Production Committee to put together a more qualified team, either changing studio again or making a collaboration between the previous studio along with the current one. We believe that having a team that truly understands the source material and how to adapt it would greatly improve the quality of this season, bringing it back to the franchise's previous quality standarts. Preferably a team made of people that have worked with Attack on Titan before and have respect a love for the series. If need be to change studio again, a big and better organised Studio with a experienced team that understands how to make traditional Japanese Anime with a lot less use of 3D animation, being capable of delivering the breathtakingly beautiful imagery that Attack on Titan is known and critically acclaimed for. A team able to drive the story forward smoothly and naturally, like it was done in the previous 3 seasons, delivering us the iconic moments, beautiful characters pieces and the unforgettable Soundtrack like it was done before.

• Time is not an issue:

We, Attack on Titan fans are famously known for our patience, for if it is to wait for greatness, we don’t mind. There was a gap of 4 years between the first and second season of the show and our patience was rewarded with the best adapted and put together season (Season 2). We can wait. We will wait 2, 3 even 4 years again! We don’t mind. Attack on Titan is an amazing story, and it needs to be told right. Take all the time you want. The recent worldwide scare of a pandemic made us all slow down our paths. It’s not fair to overwork animators, the human is more important than financial gain. Attack on Titan is a Masterpiece and should be treated as such.
