A petition for a National Cycling Policy (in Malta) based upon a sensible, unbiased, rational multi-modal approach to a national sustainable urban mobility plan (SUMP) that promotes cycling and bicycle use in ALL its forms, but with particular emphasis on cycling as;
A) A form of sustainable and eco-friendly transport,
B) A cycle-tourism resource for the islands, and;
C) Its positive future effect upon sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMP’s), that may impact upon access to EU road building grants.
D) The realistic treatment of rising congestion and parking problems.
E) As a methodology of promoting active healthy citizens, lowering national health bills.
F) Helping to create sports participation for all ages, genders and abilities.
G) With the added benefit of assisting in the reduction of emissions towards EU target levels.
H) Creating new and dynamic economies and economic growth.
The feedback I have received regarding our national mobility proposal highlights the urgent need for a cohesive infrastructure strategy across the islands. I am currently drafting a formal document to present to the relevant transport authorities based on the valid technical concerns raised in our discussion threads.

The reach of this petition has surpassed my initial expectations. It is evident that there is a profound desire for a cohesive national cycling strategy in Malta.

I suffered a spinal injury cause of car just turned in front of me in a roundabout. I want to know if the 1.5mt apart from a car is legal.

Malta definitely should be more bicycle friendly. Too many benefits to even mention.
I personally am to scared to get a bicycle here because I feel unsafe just walking on the roads here.
Would be great if that could change.

Too many cars on such a small island. We need better options before the traffic gets even worse.

Driving in Malta is a nightmare now. I want to cycle to work but the narrow roads and impatient drivers make it a death trap.
