In the first few days of April, Google Hangouts on Connecting Waters school accounts got disabled. I know this was good in some ways, for example, some people have been getting cyber bullied lately. This is definitely a huge problem however, I feel like disabling hangouts is not the right way to solve it. Of course it stopped the cyber bullying problem, but it also stopped many other important factors in a home schooler's life. For example, I am a part of the Speech and Debate Club, and because hangouts got disabled, I am no longer able to communicate to the rest of the group of which most of them use they're own personal emails. I think that if possible, if a student is getting cyber bullied, the victim should report them and CWCS can disable that one email manually, or the victim can also simply block the bully and he won't get bothered by him/her again.

I have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the administration to discuss specific alternatives to the current ban. My focus is on proposing a moderated communication policy that addresses safety concerns without disrupting project collaboration.

Google Hangouts is an important part of CW culture, students have been using their CW emails to join student club chats for years now. Many students do not have personal email, and are unable to participate in school clubs now that it has been disabled. As the President of the Creative Writing club, I have witnessed a change in the enthusiasm in the participation of the club. More students attended club meetings when they were able to communicate with one another through our group chats.

I understand that some students get distracted by hangouts, however they should be allowed access to talk to friends. It could lead to positive things such as students helping each other out with work, discussing school related topics, and as many others have said, joining club chats.
We use google hangouts for many clubs since people don't have personal emails. Without this vital resource, we may not be able to thrive in our extracurriculars. This is a profound decision which I am disgraced by. It has disgraced me so much, my vocabulary has spiked to another plane of existence. I am appalled at this. Harrumph!
We need to be able to connect with our class and not just be classmates. We need to interact with our class. hangouts need to be aloud again.

I agree with Mohammad that disconnecting google hangouts wasn't the way to stop the cyberbullying that was happening. There were probably other ways to stop it. I think that we should be allowed to get to know some of our classmates, it might create friendships that'll last a while. And most of the students in some English classes have to do group projects, therefore it might be more helpful if the kids in the class were already friends and were comfortable with their classmates already. I hope that this Petition with help brings back google hangouts. Even though I am older and won't be in school much longer, I think that Mohammad was right to make this Petition. And I am thankful that my sister shared this with me so I could help. :)
