Petitioning our administration & IT department to unblock WhatsApp for students at ACS.
Although we understand why ACS administration and our IT department have blocked certain websites and social media applications (i.e. Putlocker, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.), we believe blocking WhatsApp complicates communication with our parents and our transportation (driver, bus, cab). Moreover, a majority of us have school-related group chats that discuss upcoming events or news, like a sports team discussing a game or a Chemistry group chat updating you on a test or any homework. Some may have 3G, but other’s don’t, and when we don’t have any credit to call or contact our parents, WhatsApp is somewhat necessary. If you agree that WhatsApp should be unblocked, sign the petition for support.
Once we have enough signatures, we'll be linking this petition to our headmaster, our Dean of Students, and the head of our IT department.

Seeing the count climb this high feels surreal after how many doors were closed in my face. It is draining to keep pushing against this resistance but seeing so many of you join in keeps me going.

Unblocking whatsapp would be very helpful in cases of emergency. Whatsapp is a very useful tool that should'nt be deprived from us.
Blocking it is pointless... like what are we gonna do with whatsapp that we can't do with SMS? Blocking it just makes everything really inconvenient, and doesn't even serve for any specific purpose.
Blocking Whatsapp does not stop us from getting distracted. It just reinforces the idea in our mind that we have to be babied, instead of being given responsibility.

Yes it should change. People could still waste time equally as much on 3G so I really don't see the benefit. However for those parents whom wouldn't want to spend hundreds of dollars a month on 3G, they would very much appreciate having easy access of communication with their children at all times.

We can use our phones like grown ups and WhatsApp during our own time. I find it ridiculous to block what I consider to be an important and vital messaging platform.
