To the Administration of Avondale University,

We, the undersigned students of Avondale University, respectfully submit this petition requesting the following changes to the current cafeteria meal credit system:

  1. Cafeteria Meal Credit Rollover:
    • We request that any unused cafeteria meal credits be allowed to carry over between semesters and academic years for students who continue their studies at Avondale University.
    • For students who do not continue their studies at the University, we request that any remaining meal credits be refunded either through bank transfer or allocated towards other financial obligations such as dorm accommodation payments or HECS-HELP loans.
  2. Revised Payment Schedule:
    • We propose that students should only be required to make fortnightly payments toward their cafeteria account if their account balance falls below $237.87. This amount represents the cost of one meal per day for two weeks, a budget many students aim to maintain in order to manage their expenses effectively.

Rationale:

At the end of semesters and academic years, many students find themselves with excess cafeteria meal credits, leading to unnecessary spending in an effort to use up the remaining balance. This practice is neither financially prudent nor beneficial to students who are striving to manage their resources wisely.

By allowing meal credits to carry over, students can allocate their funds more effectively, contributing to essential expenses such as student loans, textbooks, dorm accommodation, or future housing and loan repayments. Additionally, adjusting the payment schedule to require payments only when necessary, will reduce the likelihood of accumulating excess credits, promoting better financial management among the student body.

We believe these changes will provide students with greater flexibility in managing their finances, reduce wasteful spending, and ultimately support their academic and personal goals.

We kindly ask the administration to consider our request and take action to implement these changes.

Sincerely,
Avondale University Student Body

The administration is still ignoring my emails but students continue to tell me how much money they lose every semester. Post the link on Facebook today and text three friends who are tired of wasting their credits. We need to keep pressure on the finance department until they agree to a meeting.

The momentum behind our demand for fair meal credit policies is undeniable. Email the university administration today and tell them that we refuse to let our hard-earned funds expire.

The price of these meal plans is way too high to be throwing away credit like this. Fix it.
