This is an evident racist hate crime as this ignorant youth has brought race into it several times in the snapchats! This is disgusting and even worse that adults are trying to cover it up instead of taking legal action against this ignorant child.

As a POC and 12 year member of the STS community I am appaled but not surprised at the actions that have taken place. There is an intrinsic culture of hate and racism at the school and this is yet another example. There have been far worse incidents that have been directed towards myself and others that have been ignored because of no proof and that is exactly what would have happened to this incident had social media not come forward and stepped in. Racism exists from the administration, to the teachers and all the way down to the students. Why on the STS website do they put their few minority students in every photo as the "token black person"? Why of the 84 teachers on staff is only 1 a POC? To show an example of double standards recently a black student produced a mixtape and uploaded it to soundcloud outside of school that contain bad language and was promptly suspended. Yet when blatantly racist snapchats are sent not only are they convenietly swept under the rug by administration they have the audacity to turn the incident on its head and blame the victim? Racism is alive and well at the school and it's clear if you are white and have connections to the school you can get away with anything, as the student would have if the screenshots weren't released. The racist student wasn't the first and unfortunately won't be the last until decisive action is taken. This is a borderline hate crime and the board of governors and potentially law enforcement need to step in. A message needs to be sent not only to students but to administration and I pray this incident serves as a spark to change things for the next generation of students at STS

As a respectable school, Strathcona Tweedsmuir needs to report this case to the authorities to make an effort to deal with this issue in the best way possible. It is evident that students and the rest of the community (and the world) shame racism and similar hate crimes that require serious attention. An issue like this can be reported to the police because it is a hate crime, cyber bullying, and an issue regarding mental health and suicide. Issues like this are not to be ignored and merely brushed under the covers (as it seemed was the original plan); rather they should be faced, and discussed. I signed this petition because as a student, I want to feel safe, and I want others to feel accepted. As a human being, I want this to be dealt with in the best manner possible. As a student of STS I understand the (supposed) importance of accepting diversity not only in our community, but in our world. And I believe that this issue speaks directly to that. If the school doesn't take action, it would be cunning, deceptive, and hypocritical. This petition was created so attention was brought to the issue, and action could occur- I want to see that happen!

This should be taken extremely seriously and I hope the school has the courage to take appropriate action.

As a member of the STS community, I am disappointed that the school has not taken more action to issue the proper consequences. It is very important for the school to teach the students that this behavior is completely unacceptable and disgusting. Much younger kids than this are fully aware of how awful and impactful this behavior is. A person this age should be completely accountable for their own actions.

This is unacceptable behaviour bordering on a hate crime. This student must be dealt with immediately and at a level that matches the severity of the comments posted on instagram.

Based on the fact that the investigation and action/accountability will not be made public makes me feel the school is only being accountable to one family NOT to the STS community which is all affected and now due to SM the larger population that knows about it. As it has become a public issue, all students and parents need to KNOW racism has 0 tolerance. There may be two sides but that racism presented has no place even if provoked. I have no idea if the 'victim' also said horrible things but that can be dealt with separately. If Strathcona Tweedsmuir chooses not to hold the student openly accountable, how does everyone move on, feel safe, feel supported ...I guess find another school that openly stands for diversity and NO bullying when push comes to shove. Secrecy never works, honesty is the first step to healing...

A strong reaction from the school against this racist student should be taken, as it apparently affects the school reputation badly. There are many different nationalities in the school and honestly we as parents started to have serious concerns

Schools need to take a tough stance and protect kids by not turning a blind eye. Harsher punishment should be enforced
