UC Declaration of No Confidence in Superintendent Karen Berasi petition by Parents and citizens of the Town of Suffield, CT
We, the Parents of the Suffield School District and the citizens of Suffield, CT hereby declare we have no confidence in the leadership of Superintendent Karen Berasi. We request that her contract with the Town of Suffield be terminated immediately by the Board of Education. The following points detail the reasons for our request:
1. Superintendent Berasi is currently under criminal investigation for failing to make a report to DCF. This is another example of the superintendent believing that the rules do not apply to her but only to others. This is unacceptable behavior from the leader of our schools.
2. We feel that Superintendent Berasi has been dishonest with parents, staff and our Board of Education.
3. We believe that we have a high turnover of staff because of Superintendent Berasi's poor leadership, including intimidation.
4. We do not believe that Superintendent Berasi has the best interests of our community or schools at heart.
5. We believe that Superintendent Berasi disregards the concerns of both parents and teachers.
6. There has been an increase in parents sending kids to both magnet and private schools in elementary grades through high school, as shown by our decreasing enrollment.
7. The district’s academic SBAC scores for grades 3-8 are extremely low. We are scoring lower and lower each year, falling further behind surrounding towns.
8. Superintendent Berasi has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on consultants from Center for Children with Special Needs (CCSN) and District Management Group (DMG) with no data to support the success of these programs for children. Her transparency is less and less.
9. Superintendent Berasi reduced the number of paraprofessionals and academic support for special education, leaving teachers stressed and understaffed resulting in parents having no choice but to insist on out of district placements.

we hit 100 signatures today which is way more than i expected when i started this. honestly the amount of people feeling the same way about our schools is wild and i am just glad we are finally talking about it.

im honestly blown away by how much this has taken off in such a short time. the momentum shows just how many people in town feel the same way about what is happening in our schools.

we are almost at the hundred mark and it would be huge to cross that threshold today. tell your neighbors to look at this now cause we need those extra eyes on the situation before the next board meeting.

I have a special needs child in Suffield school system I need to be able to trust the staff to protect him. I can not do that with the current administration.
She has to go. I graduated from Suffield in 2017 and I left the graduation angry at the comments Karen made about some students graduating with ease and others almost didn't.
We moved to suffiled in may of 2017, due to the school ratings(9 and 8's). Now a year later we are looking at scores that are pathetic. Knowing what she has done to this town's education system leaves only one choice..... It is time for her to find a new position somewhere else.
We just pulled our son out of the Suffield school district our next plan was to move out of town to a town with a better school system, which was the reason why we moved to this town 7 yrs ago!
I am dismayed by how our school system has deteriorated under the guidance of superintendent Barassi . Our school system used to be so highly regarded and we have lost so many great teachers and so many have left our school system due to the hostile environment she has created.
I am a parent from Ridgefield, CT. Your petition is absolutely on target. Karen Berasi--Intimidating, condescending, evil smile--"a wanna be Cruella de ville". Absolutely no interest in the child's needs and could care less about parents' concerns. Bullied staff with eye contact and harsh comments.I could spend the next 2 hours writing to you about the 3-hour PPT I endured with her disturbing behavior. What goes around comes around. I support Suffield and wish you the luck to find someone who cares about your children's needs!!!

The departure of multiple, talented administrators coupled with dedicated teachers in a mere two years signifies a district culture of intimidation, disrespect, and fear.
