PETITION AGAINST PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT DENSITY AND HEIGHT OF MIXED USE TOWER AT 618 CARNARVON STREET, NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C.

Citypoint Developments has applied to the City of New Westminster for a density and height exception in order to construct a 33-story mixed use, commercial multi-unit residential development at 618 Carnarvon Street, which would involve the consolidation of a number of properties at Carnarvon, Sixth and Clarkson Street.

The proposed height and density of this project far exceeds current zoning; it is unsuitable for the area, particularly considering existing buildings and in progress construction. We feel that the 0.91 FSR and 33.5 metres (110 feet) above the maximum stated in the Council policy far exceeds what is suitable for the area. It will negatively affect the existing residents’ enjoyment of their homes, views, light transmission, traffic, and property values. A tower of this height will particularly impact the residents at The Point, located at 610 Victoria Street, and Quantum, at 39 Sixth Street. It will add increased parking issues, noise, and traffic congestion. It will also reduce the privacy in units in nearby residential buildings that will face the 33-story tower.

Please sign this petition to let New Westminster City Hall know that we care about our neighbourhood and do not want support the impact of excessively tall towers in our community.
