The YMCA board thinks they can just bulldoze these teams and ignore the families who built them. We are busy scheduling a direct confrontation with the leadership team to force them to answer for this disastrous merger plan.

We highly value the inclusivity of our current program, which welcomes all children—regardless of skill level or commitment—to learn and improve their swimming. Many of our swimmers are involved in multiple sports, and we appreciate that our YMCA swim team has supported these multi-sport athletes. However, it seems that the new direction is moving away from this inclusive philosophy, placing more emphasis on cost savings and sending fewer athletes to higher level championships. This shift feels contrary to the YMCA’s mission of “inspiring positive change in communities by connecting people to their potential, purpose, and each other.”
A model that seems more focused on collecting awards and culling swimmers from a successful team that has managed to send swimmers to state and national champions ships its first three seasons is counter the the YMCA’s core values. And more importantly our programs builds a team of swimmers full of character, conviction and team spirit.
Yes. I do not see any benefit for our individual swimmers. It will hurt them and teach them that winning is all that matters.
I am not in favor of this merger for multiple reasons, 1. I do not see the importance of creating a stronger team just so we send more kids to states. 2. I think it’s only fair that all kids get to participate in relays not just the kids who have the best times. 3. I am very concerned about the length of meat times as they are already very long
I feel this merger will negatively impact the majority of the kids, which goes against everything the YMCA stands for.
