Pet Tourism for Green Lake:
Pet Industry is a $58 billion dollar industry. 56% of pet owners choose a destination with their pet in mind. Allowing pets around town encourages pet-based businesses to open in Green Lake, it’s an added benefit to living here, encourages people to spend time downtown, and the average pet owner spends between $700 - $3000 on their pets each year.
What we are asking the city to consider:
• Lift the ordinance prohibiting pets in our parks (Deacon Mills and Playground park)
• Impose a $250 fee for unleashed dogs
• Impose a $250 fee for not picking up after your dogs
• Find a few businesses or organizations to sponsor dog waste stations for the parks
Additional things to think about:
• Low risk – why not try it for a year?
• We would be one of the first Wisconsin cities to become pet friendly – being a leader of the pack (and not just a fast follower)

I just woke up and saw the notification and honestly my jaw hit the floor because I never imagined this would actually gain this much traction so fast. It feels like people really want to see the town evolve even if it means changing some of those old park rules that seem a bit stuck in the past. Honestly I am just buzzing right now and probably need to grab a coffee before I even try to think about what the next step is.

Of course. We should have a dog park but green lake is weirdly not tourist friendly.
totally agree. our parks are empty half the time anyway so why not let us bring our pets? fix the pet rules so we can actually enjoy the summer with our pups.
The $250 fee is a good idea. Keeps people responsible. I really hope this gets approved by the council this time.
My dog is family and we shouldn't have to leave him home when we drive into town for the day.
KEEP IT CLEAN AND KEEP THE LEASH LAWS STRICT BUT PLEASE OPEN THE PARKS UP. IT BRINGS SO MUCH BUSINESS TO SMALL TOWNS.

Yes, at least try it for a year. It's amazing how many people travel with their pets and look for pet friendly parks while looking for a vacation destination. I've seen parks with baggie stations and waste receptacles making it easier for people to clean up after their dogs.
