WE, CONCERNED CITIZENS OF ALBERTA FEEL THAT IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT FIRE AT
THE WESTAR LANDFILL, THIS FACILITY SHOULD BE PERMANENTLY CLOSED AND NOT ALLOWED TO RE-OPEN UNDER THIS OR ANY OTHER NAME OR OPERATOR.
Main reasons are: ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS (water quality, soil contamination, air quality), PROXIMITY TO PRE-EXISTING DWELLINGS, BAD MANAGEMENT/REGULATION BY OPERATOR, ALBERTA ENVIRONMENT AND CYPRESS COUNTY.
WE ALSO DEMAND A MAJOR OVERHAUL IN THE "CODE OF PRACTICE FOR LANDFILLS" SPECIFICALLY FOR CLASS 3 WITHIN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA

This landfill needs to be closed. It has already caused some enviromental issues, and will continue to so even in its prsent state. Also, the landfill owner should be picking up the tab to put out the fire.

This is our government at its finest. If Alberta Environment was as concerned about the environment as they are about coffee time and where to have lunch.. Maybe this type of thing wouldn't happen.

This is an outrageous catastrophe that has had massive impact on the lives and livelihood of the surrounding residents. This must NEVER happen again. This should NEVER have happened in the first place.

The stench in the city of Medicine Hat was bad enough, I cannot imagine what the families who had to evacuate had to endure and still are!

This needs to be addressed. Such laziness & ignorance could have caused alot worse problems. This should not have happened. Somebody needs to be held accountable & punished for the deaths & any sickness's, money loss....caused by this.
