Having a period is a natural process that shouldn’t be a source of awkwardness for anyone and we want to ensure that no one faces period poverty.

Information:

  • The average women spends 10 years menstruating in their lifetime.
  • British women spend as much as £18,400 on their periods over the course of their lifetime.
  • Costs associated with Menstruation can add up to around £400 annually
  • Many women and girls find themselves in a position where they can’t’ access sanitary products, or can’t afford them.
  • Many women take sickness absence during their period are afraid to discuss with their manager
  • Due to stagnation of pay in the civil service our staff are unable to afford many essential items needed in their daily lives.

Our aims:

  • Change attitudes toward periods.
  • Free Sanitary products in the toilets for staff and visitors
  • Education on Menstruation
  • Awareness of the effects of ‘period poverty’

The emails I receive from staff across different departments are heavy because they reveal just how much people are struggling in silence. I have been spending my nights drafting formal requests for the facilities teams even though the bureaucratic delays feel exhausting. We keep going because this basic dignity should not be up for negotiation.

Reaching this point has been physically draining but seeing the momentum build reminds me exactly why we started this. It is exhausting to fight for basic dignity in our offices yet your continued backing keeps me moving forward.

About time! It is ridiculous that we have to pay for stuff that is just a basic bodily function. This should have been done years ago.

Good idea but the company will probably just find a way to make it expensive or limit supplies. Hope it works though.

100 percent behind this. Living costs are mental right now and this would really help the lower paid staff.

I support this cause 1000%, been a woman myself and having two daughters who have yet to experience menstruation. I do think that it is disgusting that the pay we receive from the civil service does not allow us to afford essential items like this which are needed. If you cannot pay us more to be able to afford these items at least provde them at places of work!

Free sanitary products in toilets likely to be a non starter as open to abuse if not controlled in some way.

Given the rise in living costs and the lack of wage increase for our staff, this is an important campaign that I hope everyone is able to get behind.
