Did you know that the average woman will spend $5,600 on her period during her lifetime? For something that is natural and can't be controlled, that is a lot of money going to waste. I am working to create a program at Bridgewater State University that will provide students with free and easy access to menstrual products in our academic buildings. According to a study done by Free the Tampon, 86% of women started their period in public without the supplies they need and 79% of women improvised by creating a tampon or pad out of toilet paper or something else. These statistics are way too high for an issue that can be solved easily. This program will ensure female students will have a safe place to go and rely on and will also relieve any emotional or social embarrassment that they may have because of their period. We, as women and as students, should be focused on our education NOT on our periods. By signing this petition, you are showing support for the BSU community and demanding change. Thank you!

Thank you for shining a light on such an important cause. This is happening all around the world now - BSU should show *leadership* and not wait to be a follower.

I have never met a girl who wasn't ready to offer a pad/tampon in an emergency. They should be readily available for all.

Being a college student is expensive enough so always having to pay for something that happens to my body naturally adds up. Having some help every once in a while is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for taking this on. BSU administration has been particularly resistant to this cause, even removing PAY dispensers where they were available. Social justice close to home is a tough sell these days.

I hope this gets results. I tried to talk to BSU administrators about this on several occasions. The most recent response I got was something along the lines of students will just have to bring their own supplies. Kudos to your student for taking this on!

Absolutely necessities and should be provided in a public university just like toilet paper is!
