The Pennsylvania Legislature is considering Bills to expand Charter Schools activity in Pennsylvania. At the same time the Pennsylvania Department of Education has been accused to have violated Federal Law by changing the way Charter School are evaluated for Adequate Yearly Progress. The effect of this is to falsely give the impression that charter schools are performing better than they are, making Charters seem more desirable.
This petition asks our Legislature to halt all deliberation on any Bill that would expand Charter School activity and place a moratorium on the establishment of any new Charter School until the Legislature conducts a full and public hearing on the actions of the Secretary and the Department of Education regarding the falsification of Charter School performance indicators.
