As residents of PH we are concerned about the growing transient camps on several pathways into and adjacent to PH. We desire the Neighborhood board to take a position with the city that will focus on helping and housing those who want assistance, so the camps can be closed. We also believe the camps reduce safety and security for the people camping, and residents of adjacent neighborhoods, including PH. We do not believe it is in the long term interest of Pendleton Heights to let the camps continue to grow. The reasons are obvious.

I have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the neighborhood board to address the current management of these encampments. We are gathering documentation regarding safety concerns to present during that discussion.

I want to add that to find a fair solution we must place ourselves in the situation of the houseless and the residents. The houseless need basic services, from a toilet, shower, place to wash their clothes to maintain their dignity, to food and support to find a new job; otherwise, depression and frustration will force them into alcohol, drugs, and crime. Whtever we do, this problem will not be solved right away. It is necessary that we get together to demand long term solutions.
A formal encampment for the houseless with basic services, such as trash pick up, police, and a first-aid truck should be located close to those organizations that provide other charity services. The area located on Harrison St., between 10th and 11th Street is a convenient place because its proximity to several organizations that help the homeless. Having all houseless people in a single place, will help help providers to distribute their charitable donations, educated them on available resources and have them be heard by the authorities, It will also keep the neighborhoods safe from criminals passing as homeless.
This whole situation is getting out of hand. People deserve a roof over their heads but leaving them in the woods isnt the answer.
It’s just not safe to have these camps, for anyone. We want solutions to be presented and deployed but the camps aren’t it.
City needs to do a much better job providing shelter so people are not forced into this type of camping as an only alternative. Also, some people actually need help, but some are there for other reasons. It's a perfect storm but what is most disgusting is that nothing is being done to address it.
I’m in favor of a plan that helps the homeless people get back on their feet!

Living right by these camps is exhausting. Trash is everywhere and my kids can't even play in the backyard anymore. We need real city action now.
