SwissQ's conference Swiss Testing Day has decided that speakers from "Service Providing Companies" - after having gone through the paper selection process and being accepted - have to buy a mandatory sponsorship.

This is antithetical to what a conference is all about and we do not support this extreme form of #PayToSpeak. Sign this petition to voice your disagreement with such a policy. Let's work together for better conferences.

More details on the subject in my blog post

Please write in the comment if you are a speaker and/or a listener. Also, if you have additional thoughts, I'd be interested in them.

Updates

October 31, 2018

I have been reading through the comments and seeing how many people feel frustrated by this pay to speak policy. It is clear that the community values merit over marketing and the stories you are sharing confirm why this needs to change.

October 31, 2018

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people took the time to weigh in on this issue. It is clear that this is a subject we all care deeply about and the credit for this momentum belongs entirely to you. I never imagined this would gain such traction.

Think about why you organize this conference? If its about delivering the best possible content to your audience, you will miss out big time with pay to speak and end up with a bunch of advertisement sessions.

Speaker - Content creation is a huge effort. It's not fair to charge speakers and ask participants for big money.

As an attendee, I cannot condone spending my money or asking my company to send me to known Pay to Speak conferences. This example is fairly egregious too.

Thanks for making us all aware of this unacceptable tactic, Ilari.

Why do you want a huge profit over the back of testers

It makes no sense to limit the choice of speakers in this way. Even more, it is toxic for the testing community. But luckily such a decision can be reversed quickly ;-)
