In the year ‘2005-2006’ the University of Texas won the NCAA National football championship, the school made a profit of $42 million from the program yet Vince Young who courageously led the team got nothing (Gilmore). In many cases like this college athletes are left empty handed while someone else profits the money. Players like Young need to be paid to for all the efforts they put into their college careers. College football and basketball players deserve to get a piece of the enormous amount of revenue they make for their personal struggles. Many players often do not have enough money for personal needs due to the low amount of scholarship money they receive. A problem in these two college sports is that the school profits all the money yet the players who put in an excessive amount of hours get nothing. In these tough times, they need an extra lift from their financial needs. College football and basketball players should be paid due to the risk of injuries they encounter, need of money for everyday life, and because schools use players just to make a profit off them.
