LET HIM STAY !!! He has been part of our lives since for ever :( My parents used to shop there when I was little even.... His heart and soul are in that stall. To make him leave will totally destroy this guy :( ....

That's a shame! I go all the way to the open market to by my specialities..from Pat. Maybe they just want to upgrade the space..?

I have remembered this family all my life from visiting the old Open Market since 1953! He is the last link with the historic Open Market of pre-1962 when the first refurbishment too place. He needs to stay as our last historic link with the past. He has given his service to this Market for decades and the council should respect the years of toil and input and the legacy for the community which he represents. He has paid his dues, and now it is time for the council to pay theirs and allow him to trade on his stall for as long as he is able to.
The council have tried to update the Market for the student element and failed miserably, as it is now empty most days when I visit, and it is the old traditional stalls that we want to see back, if the Market is to compete with the changing area surrounding it. Yuppie useless trinkets do not cut the mustard and are not practical.
Traditional markets are there for the majority of the population, not just for students and yuppies, and by getting rid of our last traditional stalls there will be the final curtain.
Keep Mr. Mears' stall going!!! :-)

I have known of Mr Mears all my life, and the way he is being treated appears to be very very unreasonably and unfair. And probably by young people who have no idea of the 'lifetime business' and reputation that he has made over many many years. This situation should immediately be reconsidered.

This stall has always been run by my late grandmother's family.... I'm disgusted by the council's actions.

He may of broke the rules , but he is clearly frail and has trouble unloading his van .
Some allowances should be made considering his loyalty to the market , give him another chance and see if you can work something out to help him in his final years

Typical Brighton Council jobsworths. Shame they haven't got the compassion and intelligence to provide a workable solution to his parking issues - is it really that difficult - hes been there over 60 years give him a break.

Mears was and still is today a recognised name in the industry, it would be wrong to allow this man to be bullied out of the city as the council are trying to throw their weight around
