The council need to show some compassion to this gent and recognise not everything is a text book situation. Council are behaving like robots not humans.

This is outrageous...I am disgusted this is happening...It's like pushing the Old out to make way for the new...all over a parking place which should have been allocated in the first place to Pat...I have great memories walking through the market as a child...and to see the last of the originals going really saddens me!!!!

This stall is open when the rest of the OM resembles a graveyard. Violating parking restrictions or any other bylaw needs addressing but this is an extenuating case and this reaction by the council is extreme. Business have already suffered and some closed due to parking restrictions and high business rates. Don’t let this be another one.

Have shopped at the open market for many year and am saddened to see the demise of yet another traditional trader. The old market was full of stalls relavent to ordinary working class people at prices we could afford, but no longer. I guess Mr Mears will be replaced by yet another student type lentil store which will be another nail in the coffin of this once great little market

If he goes this will be at the detriment of the community. He is a key fixture in the market and is what a market should be about, fresh cheap food. I love the market and shop with him all the time. Close his business over a parking issue?? This stall enriches my life and is a part of my life. Real community stuff which we need so much more of not less. How can the council be so short sighted. People walking to a market to buy plastic free food, you need to support this not reduce this. Such a loss. Very angry and sad local resident.

Pat is a one of the first traders let him stay put two disable bays near to the market so people like Pat can park the council want not lose out on parking fees

I am Brighton born and bred and this guy and his stall has always been synonymous with the open market even though its not so open market now . The then market was a thriving bustling place and Mears stall was at the forefront. The council and some of their jobsworths need to be more compassionate considering what he has undergone in recent times.
