Given Mr Mears's age and lack of mobility, added to his being a part of the market for so long, it beggars belief that management are incapable of creating a solution that assists Mr Mears, and keeps the loading bays clear.

Shouldn't they be encouraging rather than penalising small businesses? If Mears have to go they can close the whole thing down.

Surely there's a more proportionate way to deal with parking issues? We need independent traders in the city. Please reconsider.

Communities need to stand together and accept that every now and again, the rules are non sensicle.

I'm really disappointed to think that Pat is being thrown out over something like this. Surely, adding an accessible parking bay would have been a more constructive way forward! Cynically, I imagine it's an effort to force out long-term traders (who are probably renting units on beneficial terms). I hope those in charge have a change of heart - and in any case, wish Pat all the best.

Let him stay as One of the few that are open, for a full day as per lease, are those that open only a few hours per day being given notice? The veg stall is one of the busiest stalls in the market, and draws the public in. With all the empty stalls, what are management thinking. ?.?

Please let him stay, he is wonderful and we need diversity amongst the homogenised big trader high streets

I love the open market but usually only visit for fruit and veg (and eggs and cheese from Jason.) So many people I know would love the Mears stall to stay. I hope this decision can be reconsidered. Thanks.

How crazy this ham- fisted action by the market (?)/ City council is. Surely he must be entitled to Blue Card anyway, and this would have resolved the problem

Why would this be allowed to happen? It’s clear what needs to be done. Allow this man to serve himself and his community.

Shame on Brighton and Hove City Council. The Council should provide Parking for Stallholders. The Mears Family have around for many years
