Pasadena, California, EV owners with solar installations lose the benefit they should get from contributing electricity to the grid during the day, because they do not have access to the Time Of Use rates offered to other EV owners. So, even though they charge their car at night, their usage is subtracted from the incentivized wattage they have generated during the day. While contributing on two incentivized fronts - supporting the grid at peak hours and transferring a heavy load to off-peak, they benefit from neither. Once the TOU pilot program runs out, we urge the City to correct that inequity.
This whole thing is a joke. I put up solar panels so I could save money but the city makes it impossible to actually see the benefits. Fix the rates already!
