We are petitioning for parking laybys to be put in at the bottom of Aikman avenue, to make it a safer road. Aikman avenue is the main route for the fire and police services this is why the council have said we cant have speed restrictions. 6 days a week between the hours of 6am and 11pm we also have a bus going past each way every 7 minutes.  At the top of the road there is laybys for off street parking, however when you come down the hill there is no parking laybys. This causes problems when speeding motorists gain speed down the hill and have to swerve around the perdestrian bollards at the bottom of the hill.  Alot of speeding motorists miss judge this and lose control.  In the last 9 years a countless number of cars have been written off because of speeding cars coming to fast down the hill. We believe that if the cars were in parking laybys and the bollards removed to avoid motorist sweving along with speed bump put in all the problems would be solved.  The latest crash happened on mothers day this year and has written off 3 cars, to which the owners have had to pay the price. Its only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured or killed.
