We, the undersigned, request the addition of an access point onto Atwood Boulevard from the parking lot for the businesses at The Towers and Clocktower in Murray, Utah. This change would address a serious safety concern for drivers, improve traffic flow, and provide much-needed accessibility for the local community.

Background and Issue:

On November 6, 2024, a car accident occurred while a driver attempted to turn left from the 310 Tower parking lot onto 4500 S, near the intersection at Atwood Boulevard. While those involved were unharmed, both vehicles sustained property damage. This accident highlighted the ongoing risk drivers face when exiting the lot, particularly when making left turns onto this busy road. Limited visibility, high traffic volume, and the proximity to a stoplight make this intersection hazardous and difficult to navigate safely.

Proposed Solution:

To prevent further accidents and promote safer driving conditions, we propose adding a new access point from the parking lot onto Atwood Boulevard. This change would provide drivers with an alternative, safer route for entering and exiting the lot without the need to make challenging left turns onto 4500 S.

Benefits of a New Access Point on Atwood Boulevard:

  1. Increased Safety: An alternative exit would reduce the risk of accidents and near misses, enhancing safety for everyone who uses the parking lot.
  2. Improved Traffic Flow: A third access point would help ease congestion in the parking lot and along 4500 S, especially during busy hours.
  3. Greater Community Convenience: Many residents, employees, and customers who use this lot daily would benefit from enhanced accessibility and ease of use.

Community Support:

Feedback from building occupants and regular users of the lot indicates broad concern over current traffic risks. Several others have experienced collisions or near-misses, underscoring the need for a safer traffic solution.

We believe this change is essential to safeguard the well-being of those who work at and visit the businesses at 308, 310, and 348 E 4500 S. We respectfully request that the City of Murray and the property owners initiate a review to add an access point on Atwood Boulevard. This improvement would create a safer, more efficient environment for our community.
