When you work hard in Maine, you should be able to care for yourself and your family when illness strikes. But nearly one out of every two full-time workers in Maine is denied even one single paid sick day. That number rises for the working poor. In fact, 3 out of 4 low-wage working families don\'t have coverage. If we believe in family values, it\'s time to value families.
Next year, Maine lawmakers will consider \"An Act to Care for Working Families.\" This legislation will guarantee a minimum number of paid sick days to use for yourself, or an ill child, parent, or spouse.

The Maine Women\'s Lobby, a membership organization, was formed in 1978 when a group of Maine delegates to the National Women\'s Conference met to discuss activities the delegation might undertake to promote the well-being of Maine women. After the defeat of their domestic violence bill in the Maine Legislature, due in large part to the lack of representation of Maine women as an \"interest group,\" they formed a not-for-profit corporation to bring the perspective of women to public policy in the state of Maine.
