We the undersigned call on Oxford City Council to review its policy on the siting of mobile phone masts, which are proliferating throughout the city. There are currently 40 plus masts in a square mile of Oxford City Centre with a lot more very powerful ones being installed right now. A Council of Europe Resolution, passed in May 2011, calls for the application of the "precautionary principle" and a dramatic reduction in human exposure to microwave radiation from masts and other wireless devices in line with increasing evidence about the health risks associated with living near a mast. We call on the council to implement this strategy, which would mean removing masts from heavily residential areas of the city to the industrial outskirts and drastically reducing rather than increasing the over-all number.
