Oppose the Curfew & Moratorium on New Billboards in Pocatello

Sign the Petition Today

The city of Pocatello has proposed a new sign code which includes a curfew on all signs and billboards from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM and a moratorium on any new billboard construction.

Billboards serve as crucial advertising tools for local businesses, contributing to economic growth and vitality. The proposed curfew and moratorium would unduly restrict businesses' ability to effectively advertise their products and services to the public in new growth areas of Pocatello. This limitation could stifle competition, hinder entrepreneurship, and ultimately harm the local economy.

Instead of implementing a curfew and moratorium, we are urging the city officials to remove the curfew in its entirety and explore alternative solutions that address any concerns related to billboards.

This is a huge overstep and micromanagement of businesses. This will also be a cost to businesses that would have to change signage. This is also a security issue. If buildings cannot have adequate lighting at night, this will give others the opportunity to break in unseen because of the lack of lights. I also feel like this is a safety hazard for our police force. More lighting keeps them safer too!

So much for small government?! This is overreaching and interfering with business owner's decisions. These signs provide needed light for nighttime safety.

I strongly oppose the new ordinance and feel more research and feedback is necessary. How are you going to police all these stringent guidelines you are proposing? Seems like a huge overreach and will negatively impact the voice of local businesses and future economic development.

This is, in my opinion, so detrimental to our local businesses! We work so hard to attract businesses, and now your guys want to make that job more difficult for NO reason! Is this an issue?? I have not spoken to one person who thinks this is a good idea.

Billboards are crucial for small town businesses, as well as getting out useful and much-needed information to the public. I do not support a moratorium on billboards and feel they serve a much needed purpose for our community.

Let businesses advertise in a manner that builds business. Limiting their advertising hours and their advertising opportunities will effect their profitability, their sales tax contibutions to the city, and the number of employees that they can support.

I oppose the new ordinance, as I believe it is counter productive to business expansion in Pocatello.
