This result validates our concerns regarding the environment and the quality of life for our community. We have secured a quiet victory but should remain observant of future local development.

We oppose the proposed Mined Land Permit Modification (DEC #4-3840-00020/00003- MLF #40137) for the Hoffay Mine in the Town of Sand Lake that would expand its footprint and add a crusher, two screeners, and two generators. This mine borders several residential neighborhoods where hundreds of families live. We believe this expansion will have a significant negative impact on the environment through noise pollution and air pollution directly related to mine operations, and increased truck traffic at and to and from the mine. For these reasons we believe this application should be denied and a full environmental impact statement should be required under the State Environmental Quality Review Act. We also ask that the comment period for this application be extended for at least 60 days due to the corona virus outbreak which makes it difficult to effectively inform Sand Lake residents about this issue.

I can't imagine any more health hazard dust, filthy home exteriors, broken windshields, and crusher noise than we have now. Not to mention the property values in a prosperous town with the appearance of a filthy mining town.
Hoffay has already abused the grandfather clause to expand his deceased parents' very small mine on their farm into a giant mining operation with no farming occurring. Without the ridiculous grandfather clausevdor mines that existed prior to regulations, his current operations would be illegal. Please do not let him expand again.
No more mining in the Town of Sand Lake! Our roads are being ruined with the truck traffic. Our quality of life is being jeopardized with the noise pollution and the truck pollution. The trucks speed up and down the roads and ignore the speed limit. My house shakes at times when the overloaded trucks speed by. Enough is enough!
As a resident of Averill Park I strongly oppose the expansion of mines in our town. The expansion of mining has negative effects on ground water-we all rely on well water. Expansion of mining has costly environmental consequences. Do not allow this to move forward.

Already the noise and air pollution from the mine is a detriment; we have also had to have our well fracked because the water table has dropped. Clean air and water are necessities of life and they would be threatened by expansion of the mine.
The local mining operators have proven themselves to be duplicitous liars. Troy Sand and Gravel's recent illegal mining in West Sand Lake near Stop 13 Road that resulted in legal sanctions is only one example. Stop the mining, stop the trucks and stop the noise in the Town of Sand Lake. This is a residential community now. The days of mining are over.
Our house and property on Summit Drive directly abuts the area that Hoffay proposes to expand mining on. The noise from mining expansion, truck traffic and the serious threat to our well water quality would be substantial and our property value would surely be negatively impacted. And as you must be aware, our local government is totally opposed to mining expansion in our town.

Have you ever stood next to your well casing when a blast from Troy sand and gravels under ground blast occurred ? I have .... I can’t imagine where the water table will be diverted to? #Got Water???
