OPPOSE PROJECT TRANSFORM AND ACADEMIC REDUNDANCIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM

At a time when the government is trying to encourage people to study languages more, this policy seems really misguided. If anything, the university should be investing more in the languages department, not less. I work on the University Open Days, and have seen people choose this University because there are more staff to support you than at other Russell Group Universities - especially when it comes to the Year Abroad. It makes no sense whatsoever to get rid of the support networks currently in place and in some cases, lose 20 years of experience in ensuring things run smoothly! The fact that we have been telling people to apply as we have a Year Abroad office with extensive support, when they will now get here to find that support has been cut, is if anything mis-selling. I am sick and tired of facing cuts that impact on the functioning of my course to fund snazzy buildings that I as a student never asked for. I pay my tuition fees for my course, not for a sports centre I won't be able to afford to use. I have always been proud of this institution, but today I feel ashamed. The poor leadership shown throughout project transform and choosing to build buildings we can't afford without reducing staff and services shows that our University leadership has forgotten what higher education is all about.

"Project Transform" is an insidious attack on our universities teaching and the rights of it's teaching staff. Not to mention, attacking a department which is disastrously under-funded anyway. UoN makes millions of profit (in the region of £40 million) this is treating our institution simply for profit and we will not stand for it.

Determental to studies. Thought you was a top uni.! Don't do this to the students.They are paying good money for the best

I do not support the university's decision to reduce the number of teaching and support staff in language departments because of direct, negative impact this will have on the quality of the education provided by the university.

It's a shame that the University apparently thrives toward mediocrity...

Cutting funding for language departments and the support given for the vital year abroad is unbelievable. Languages should be promoted and supported given the global society in which we all now work and live.

The 4 year course containing 1 year placement is a contract between university and student therefore if conditions are changed the contract is broken

I disagree with the changes, it will not be a university experience without the support we get. Of which we have paid for too.

If your gonna make changes. Be transparent. We say it every year. Transparency breeds sympathy.

As the School Education Rep for German, I was elected to represent students and not staff members. I was aware of the cuts to admin staff from the start of this year but came to the conclusion that it was better for students in the long run because of the new teaching space which will be built for us. However, academic staff being made redundant is going to be extremely damaging for the education and support of the future generations of students and I'm forced to voice my concerns. Our department is already too small to meet the demands of our student body and this change will only make the problem worse. Our teachers have been more than just teachers as to many, they are mentors, academic role models, and to some almost like members of their family. In a close knit department like ours, any absence of staff is sure to leave a hole which we cannot fill. While I am almost certain that project transform will happen, we can at least try to stop it. The change is being made from the top down and it seems as though those in power did not consider the effects they would have on a personal level. Project Transform affects the university as a whole, but in a school where so much support comes from direct contact with our instructors, the damage, and implicitly the damage to our reputation, is sure to prove irreparable.

This isn't okay, we absolutely need the support of the admin staff, university can be a very difficult place to find out the information you need and to get help from people that know or care about you and without the admin staff from our schools this will be made impossible

This project is astonishingly unfair for university staff.

Don't clip their wings before they have a chance to fly. Good luck to all concerned.

Disgusting

This will have a detrimental impact on the studies of students taking a degree in languages as well as from the fields of music, art, and performing arts and surely with fees of £9000 there should better support for students not less.

Great cause guys! I so opposes the changes being made to our fantastic departments!!

It's a shame I'm only finding out about this tonight when it's too late really. Pretty poor show from the uni.
