We are standing together in solidarity with staff in the Faculty of Arts at the at the University of Nottingham who are facing redundancies. These redundancies will take away 11.5 FTE (full time equivalent) positions from our departments, making them smaller, and threatening languages and services that make our Faculty unique. The proposed cuts will increase the ratio of staff-to-students ratio from 11 students per one member of staff, to 16-20 students per one member of staff. This seriously jeopardises the quality of language teaching and increases the workload of our already overworked staff.
In addition, we are opposing the roll-out of Project Transform at the University of Nottingham and how it could potentially affect our Year Abroad next year. Members of admin staff will be moved to different areas of the university for a job that they did not apply for. This means the support on our Year Abroad will be limited, and threatens the jobs of experienced staff who have set up international exchanges, university partnerships and built up trust with both students and international institutions over the years. The changes will also have a massive impact on first year students who will be applying for their Year Abroad next year, the same level of support will not exist.

The University of Nottingham administration thinks they can slash our departments and destroy our services without a fight. We are climbing toward 1,000 signatures but we need to hit that mark immediately to force these bureaucrats to look at the damage they are causing. Push this out to everyone you know right now because our staff and students deserve better than these reckless cuts.

The support of Year Abroad staff based at the University of Nottingham was vital to both the preparation and the execution of my year abroad in Paris between 2013 and 2014. Knowing there was always 'someone on the ground' was a real confidence boost. Cecil Lancashire was fantastic.
As an Alumnus of Nottingham University and also as German Studies researcher at Birmingham University I am very aware of Nottingham's excellent academic reputation which will be undermined internationally if reductions go through.
These students deserve to get the quality and number of teaching staff that they were led to believe would be available when they applied to the University. To make these staff redundant now is the equivalent to false representation.
This will have a detrimental impact on the studies of students taking a degree in languages as well as from the fields of music, art, and performing arts and surely with fees of £9000 there should better support for students not less.
important members of our faculty are already leaving because of the changes imposed by project transform. This is scandalous. Students have not been informed about these changes and we now will lose well loved lecturers and teachers of the German department.
This shouldn't happen...
With tuitions fees as high as they are, it's deplorable that teaching standards should be jeopardised in this way.

These cuts, together with the failure to fill FIVE recently vacant positions in French, threaten to reduce Nottingham's highly reputed ML departments to a non-viable position which will seem to license yet harsher cuts.
