OPPOSE PROJECT TRANSFORM AND ACADEMIC REDUNDANCIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM

I did my PhD at Nottingham because of the strength of its modern languages school. This proposal is dreadful, utterly shortsighted and wrong-headed. I really wonder about the university's priorities, when there seems to be plenty of money around to build conference hotels and new sports centres.

I'm really glad that the management realised when I paid £9000 a year fees for 'education' and never used the gym that it was a sneaky code to build a sports village.

Spend money in new buildings to show off, save money by mistreat the students and the staff. The teachers teach, the administration staff admins, the students pay for it. If one of those pillars fails, the rest of them will fail as well.

Looking over what has been proposed, it is clear to me that the high standards of the university cannot be maintained once this is put into place. There must be an alternative.

Justnot the isolationsit direction the UK educatiin system should be taking towards language learning

As a member of admin staff I have been forced to go through the job preference procedure in Project Transform, and have been allocated a role I have no interest in. Throughout this reorganisation process the thoughts and feelings of the staff affected have been swept aside, despite the obvious fact that we are the ones dealing with students and academics all day everyday. Differences between how Schools manage very different courses seem not to have been noticed as the one system fits all ethos comes first. Admin staff have been worried about these changes to be inflicted upon us for a year now, and although we have just been allocate new roles no job specifications exist so we have no idea what we will actually be doing in the new system come 1st August (although we are expected to train for our new roles before then whilst simultaneously maintaining business as usual in our current roles - no sniff of a bonus for this). The University of Nottingham has caused untold stress to hundreds of their low paid admin staff (many of whom are over-qualified with UoN degrees) who are having to go through Project Transform or resign. The Univeristy's senior management should feel a heavy burden of personal responsibility for this upheaval to so many individuals, but I doubt that they lose sleep over us. It is us admin staff who can't sleep. We all want the best for our students, but they will no longer be 'our students' when they can't call into the School office, but have to traipse to the service centre in their lunch hour. Shame on you, University of Nottingham, you are making life for very many people very miserable.

Totally disagree with this as I have Ist year student at the university.

As a parent I believe that student/tutor contact time for the amount of fees charged should be more not less. This will no doubt reduce the contact time further. Also worrying would be the impact of less admin support on a young person when applying for places abroad and also wouldn't taking away those experienced in facilitating places, potentially affect the safety of the student whilst abroad? Please rethink this cost cutting exercise.

Providing inadequate support for your students while they are abroad is irresponsible and negligent I fully understand the need to have efficient administration, and can understand the benefit of centralisation of certain services. However, each faculty will have needs unique to them and there is a duty for the University to ensure that these needs are met especially in the case of overseas travel as they stipulate a year abroad as part of the undergraduate study. It is totally unacceptable to recruit students on the basis that you will offer a service and then remove that service at a point when the student has no choice. It does not show any respect for your paying clients.

The support of Year Abroad staff based at the University of Nottingham was vital to both the preparation and the execution of my year abroad in Paris between 2013 and 2014. Knowing there was always 'someone on the ground' was a real confidence boost. Cecil Lancashire was fantastic.

As an alum of Nottingham (PhD, Theology 2011) I am disappointed in the university.

Surely academic excellence and delivering a first class degree comes before all the peripheral parts of going to uni?

This is a joke. There's a lack of staff as-is, and yet the uni has deemed a shiny new sports centre necessary. Considering it will be used by a percentage of the students as opposed to all, you'd think the uni might want to focus on pleasing the entire student base with more staff and the retention of experienced and skilled staff.

There's not enough contact hours, staff or books in the library yet you feel the need to build student centres and sports halls.

Save the staff

As a loyal member of staff directly affected by Project Transform on the receiving end of the university's deplorable tactics - I fully support this action.

PT sets to threaten the entire university; staff have been told half information while students have been told nothing. Staff expected a new system that would help them do a better job, not replace them and the fact students are not being told anything is out of order.

What a really stupid time to be cutting these facilities. The world is smaller than ever and we need accomplished linguists.
