OPPOSE PROJECT TRANSFORM AND ACADEMIC REDUNDANCIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM

Why can't the university spend less on its Managerial Team's big salaries and save these people's jobs? I retired recently from Nottingham and am currently benefitting from excellent tuition in Spanish there, along with undergraduates, other University staff, the general public and other retirees. Languages need good staff, not new buildings.

This needs more recognition! The university should not have the power to silently terminate 12 people from their jobs, hindering the learning for all current language students. I stand in support, and I hope that our collective voices are loud enough so that we shan't be ignored.

money isn't everything uon

This is about an attack on what are perceived to be the less financially beneficial areas of learning. The arts do not necessarily attract the financial wins on the table for science or engineering,, but where would we be without the richness of art, literature, history or languages and culture. Life would be very uniform and grey indeed. My academic colleagues are already beleaguered and demotivated due to workload so I am intrigued as to how these staff cuts can do anything to improve an already stretched situatiion. Is management suddenly no longer concerned about the NSS scores....the original gold standard? For me, the saddest thing I see amongst my admin colleagues is the skills, knowledge and experience across a range of areas being disregarded and utterly unvalued as they are slotted into new roles which they did not apply for and which they would not choose to apply for were they advertised externally. In the current climate of lack of honesty and transparency I am too anxious to add my name to this for fear of potential career recriminations. Is this really how we want to operate?

The current UEB strategy to invest in capital expenditure is contrary to the ethos of a university culture. The amount of capital investment at UoN is unprecedented when compared with other Russell Group Universities and this will seriously jeopardise staff to student ratios. If the University is to maintain its standard of excellence, (which parents, students, staff and the local community are very proud of) then it needs to invest in teaching staff NOT in buildings.

Keep our academic staff.

In a fracturing world, making it HARDER for young people to learn foreign languages is remarkably stupid for an institute of higher education. Disappointing Nottingham.

The reason my son chose Nottingham over Exeter was because of the quality of the teaching; this is so disheartening for students and staff (and parents too!).

Nottingham university has always been a beacon of excellence in languages. This is so short-sighted and such a disappointing proposal by seemingly highly intelligent people

I am unison branch officer and Unison has raised formal dispute already. I am glad student group involved!

I experienced the language staff at Nottingham when I was there for Stutton trusts summer school and they are all amazing and wonderful!

Budgets should be proportionate to the department! High tech labs will never beat good quality teaching
