A developer seeks to construct alandfill on a1750-acre farm at the intersection of Harrington Hwy and the Dan River near Eden, NC. The proposed project has high potential for river contamination and that would jeopardize Rockingham County's main source of drinking water, limit recreation and hamper economic development efforts in the future. Dan River Basin Association (www.danriver.org) has recruited a task force of community volunteers and experts. The task force has engaged legal authority on landfill issues to oppose the development proposed by PBK Holdings, LLC. Several groups have publicaly voiced their opposition to the project including the City of Eden, the Town of Wentworth, MillerCoors, the Rockingham County Democratic Party, Will of the People, Rockingham County Association of Realtors, and the Rockingham County Solid Waste Authority.
