The
Mutembo Nchito SC Tribunal
Madam
Chief Justice,
We the under signed
request that the proceedings of the tribunal set up to probe the DPP, Mr.
Mutembo Nchito should be open to the public. The accusations against the DPP
were made publicly and we were made to believe that the tribunal was set up in
the public interest. We, the under signed believe that a tribunal whose
proceedings are not open to the public will not allow Mr. Nchito a fair and
unbiased hearing before the law, which is Mr. Nchito's, and every Zambian's
constitutional right. We believe that allowing the setting up of a tribunal to
sit in secret is going down a slippery slope. We risk setting a bad precedent
where the rights of Zambian citizens are trampled upon without any recourse to
the law. Such an occurrence casts the integrity and fairness of the judiciary
in very bad light.
Madam Chief Justice, we ask
for a fair and open hearing for Mr. Mutembo Nchito because we strongly believe
that " injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"
Mr. Mutembo Nchito "case" is of public interest and as such the Tribunal needs to be open to the public. Natural justice demands no more no less.
