To: The Minister of Justice, Hon Patrick Chinamasa Republic of Zimbabwe Free the Zimbabwean “Treason” Activists Now! We the undersigned hereby add our voices to the worldwide outcry of protest against the further placement on remand of Zimbabwean citizens for the "crime" of gathering to discuss the February 2011 mass movements in Tunisia and Egypt. We demand the immediate dropping of charges, for the remaining Zimbabwean activists, Antonater Choto, Welcome Zimuto, Eddson Chakuma, Tatenda Mombeyarara, Munyaradzi Gwisai and Hopewell Msavaya Gumbo, now four facing new alternative charges after the state dropped the treason and subversion charges. The dropping of the treason and subversion and subsequent charge shopping is a clear indication of the baseless nature of the accusations in the first place. It is more than six months since they were arrested, detained in remand prison, have been placed in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, released and subjected to restrictive bail conditions, with passports held by the courts and having to regularly report to the Law and Order section of the Zimbabwe Republic Police. The legal rights of the 6 are being violated and they have been severely punished before the court has ruled guilt or not. We therefore demand their freedom, by dropping the newly shopped charges in the interest of peace democracy and the true pursuit of human rights agenda.

I just spent the last hour reading through the comments here and it is actually so overwhelming to see how many people from all over the world are paying attention to what is happening to the six even though things feel so stuck lately. It is infuriating how they keep moving the goalposts with these charges but I am currently drafting a letter to the ministry to remind them that we are not going anywhere while these friends remain trapped in this cycle of court appearances.

I honestly never thought this would gain this much steam when I started typing out the first draft during a total fit of frustration. It is wild to see people from all over actually paying attention to the absurd legal games happening to these six individuals who really just wanted to talk about history and politics. We have to keep this pressure up because the absurdity of these constant new charges needs to end immediately.

This is a total joke. They didnt do anything wrong besides talking about what was happening in other countries. Let them go!

Ridiculous charges. 6 months is way to long to keep them tied up in court. Embarrassing for the country.

What a shame. The police are just making things up as they go along now. Free them immediately.

Justice for the 6! Holding them this long is just meant to scare everyone else.

STOP THE HARASSMENT. These people have families and lives and you are ruining everything for no reason.
