Dear BOE members,

We have been made aware that there is an opening on the Board of Education and that four applicants are currently being considered. Per this opening, we have been informed that the 8 current board members will decide who will now fill this seat. While we do not know the identity of any of the specific candidates, we are concerned one is an individual who ran in the prior board of education election with a great deal of controversy surrounding his campaign. As you may be aware, this candidate made disparaging comments about the Tatem School and the surrounding neighborhoods.

We encourage the Board to consider this controversy when deciding to fill the vacant position. Although we are concerned about this candidate’s ability to represent the interests of all students in Haddonfield, we maintain that he would be better suited to run during the next general election. This would give him a forum to properly campaign and give the voters an opportunity to decide whether he should be elected.

We are hopeful that you are meeting with additional talented and competent candidates who are interested in serving our entire community. For this reason, we respectively request that this Board select a less controversial candidate to fill the vacant seat.
