Another poorly thought out idea that does not consider unintended consequences!

This hurts a lot of good people for no good reason. If there are a few problematic cases, then attack the problems. Don’t attack everyone because of a few. Common sense.

There will be numerous unintended consequences of this ordinance and the city will eventually regret its passage. I would like to know who the force is behind this ordinance.

This will have an adverse effect on the homeowners which will cause rent prices to rise causing further issues for the tenants and residence of Opelika.

I do not believe in this governmental overreach! Seems there are many other areas you could use our tax dollars. Any and all repairs and upgrades are already requiring approval and permits from the city, this is yet another attempt at controlling the citizens.

Bad idea. The results of this ordinance will be more money for the city of Opelika and higher rent prices for the very people who can't afford it.

While there are several reasons that I oppose this proposed city ordinance, right up there near the very top is the foul aroma created by the “ordinance creating” process itself. It is reminiscent of a recent attempt by the city to turn a two lane city avenue into a three lane highway.

Opelika is the one place you can get get decent rental property for a decent amount of money. Don’t be like Auburn and make living uncomfortable for citizens.

It is not right that good landlords who have nice property have to pay the price for slum lords.

I believe this is a large burden on Landlords and will cause the rents to increase substantially making it more direct for tenants to find affordable housing

We have 8 houses all in Opelika. If this passes, it will be a real burden on small landlords like myself. Our options will be to raise rents to cover the additional cost or get out of the rental business. We already sold 2 of our houses in Alexander City because of unreasonable fines and taxes on the landlords.
