This petition will be priority mailed to the Hawaii County Council and Mayor Billy Kenoi on November 30th, 2010. We the undersigned persons, including but not limited to: residents of Hawaiian Acres, residents of the Big Island and visitors to the Big Island: Support the creation of a special day, regularly occurring once a week, on which day helicopters and low flying planes are banned from flying over Hawaiian Acres, Hawaii Island, Hawaii. Some exceptions would be allowed as described in the following text. Exceptions: those helicopters and low flying planes active in search and rescue, fighting fires or other civil defense matters would be exceptions to the ban. For purpose of this petition the definition of low flying plane will be 3500 feet. We feel that requiring planes and helicopters to re-route one day a week around Hawaiian Acres will have a minimal financial impact, yet will be a positive step forward thereby increasing the quality of Hawaiian Acres residents' lives. Please note that the problem of low flying aircraft is a constant one in Hawaiian Acres as we are in the direct flight path of tour helicopters that travel on hourly schedules from Hilo Airport to where lava is flows into the Pacific Ocean. To the undersigned, relief from this noise and privacy pollution, for the residents of Hawaiian Acres, one day a week, seems a valid and reasonable request.
