The Nelson loop (https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/45070/nelson-loop) at Hall ranch in Boulder, Colorado is a great loop for all ages and abilities.

Most people ride the loop in the clockwise direction but every so often there is the intrepid soul, like myself, that wants to ride it counter clockwise. Both directions offer great riding but without a single direction trail, like the loops at Betasso, those riding it clockwise have to yield to the counterclockwise folks on some of the best flow in Boulder county.

I am proposing that the Nelson loop be made one way and that the direction flip every 30 days. Not only does this make for a better riding experience but also may help with wear and tear on the trails and make the trail safer for all riders.

I have approached Boulder County Open Space about this and their response was:

+++++++++++++++++

After discussion with the rangers, including the resident ranger, the general feedback is that many riders enjoy using the trail in both directions, often within the same day. We have not received any other requests to move the loop to a one-direction rotation.

However, we will keep your comment on file and if we receive additional feedback in favor of single directional use on the loop, we will revisit the option.

++++++++++++++++++

My goal with this petition is to show the county how much support their is for this ides and work to get this implemented.

Boulder County Open Space claimed they never heard from anyone else about this issue, but our massive momentum proves they are flat out wrong. They cannot keep ignoring us now that this movement has gained so much traction.

I respectfully disagree and think this is a poor idea and not needed in any way at all on Nelson loop. There is ample visibility on the loop regardless of direction. I like riding both directions whenever I like. Most folks already ride it counter clockwise as it is. No need to add more rules to a trail system that limits the rights of MTB riders.

I think this is a bad idea. We don't need more rules and limits we just need more respect for each other on the trail. There is plenty of visibility so the argument that it will be safer is BS. How about add another loop or open night hawk to bikes that is where we could get more agreement. More trails is the best way to less conflict not directional limiting rules.

I support making the nelson loop directional but i think the switching trail direction frequency once a month is too infrequent. I support switching the trail weekly or more frequently than weekly.
