The reasons for this petition is to curtail the authoritarian decisions of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Abel Olayinka, in rusticating and arresting students and students' leaders of the University of Ibadan for speaking out democratically, thereby violating their rights to freedom of movement, freedom of expression, and freedom of assembly as contained in the Nigerian constitution. He also closed down the University arbitrarily, for his personal reasons.

The silence from the university administration remains disappointing but it confirms the necessity of our collective persistence. I am currently organizing the accounts I have received from those directly affected by these policies to ensure their experiences are presented clearly to the governing council.

The man has been unfair to the students, no fatherly love. We can't continue like this so olayinka must go.

I have heard a lot about this authoritarian and he needs to go now. If this petition doesn't work the way it worked against Ojengbede when he was elected as UI Vice Chancellor over a decade ago, then it means this country has deteriorated beyond repairs.
