Dear Sir/Ma
Subject: Violent Assault, Harassment, and Illegal Encroachment on University of Abuja Land
I write as the elected President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), University of Abuja, on behalf of the entire student body, to formally petition against the unlawful actions of Barrister Bucknor, an alumnus of the University of Abuja, whose conduct has endangered students, violated the law, and brought disrepute to the legal profession.
On 4th of September 2025, the SUG and a few alumni gathered peacefully at the University’s mini-campus to engage in dialogue regarding the illegal takeover of University land by the Gwagwalada Local Government Council. This land, by law, is protected under the University of Abuja Establishment Act of 1988.
Shockingly, rather than responding through lawful and democratic means, Barr. Bucknor mobilized and personally led a group of armed thugs to attack peaceful students. I, the SUG President, was personally harassed, slapped, and assaulted. The thugs unleashed violence under his direct instruction. Most students were injured but six students were severely brutalized and two others were unlawfully arrested.
Even more disturbing are reports that certain policemen in Gwagwalada stood by or actively supported the attackers, allegedly after being compromised financially.
This is not only a criminal act but also an assault on education, democracy, and public safety.
We therefore humbly demand the following:
1. Immediate investigation and prosecution of Barrister Bucknor for assault, incitement to violence, and attempted murder.
2. Disciplinary action by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) against Barr. Bucknor for gross professional misconduct.
3. Full investigation into the role of the Gwagwalada Police officers who failed to protect students and allegedly aided the attackers.
4. Protection of University of Abuja land from illegal encroachment, in line with the University of Abuja Establishment Act.
We believe that if urgent action is not taken, this dangerous precedent will continue to embolden criminals and threaten the safety of Nigerian students.
We trust your office to act swiftly in the interest of justice, accountability, and the protection of education in Nigeria.
Thank you.
Signed.
Students’ Union Government (SUG),
University of Abuja.
How can you attack peaceful students we came to speak for their right?
We can't take such actions from anyone, and the students of uniabuja deserves justice.

This needs to be investigated and punished before matters get even more out of hand. It's not just wrong, but students' lives and rights are at risk here.
