With more than half of all Oklahoma students in Kindergarten through fourth grade unable to read at grade level, these struggling readers need evidence-based programs that are proven effective at helping them become proficient readers. Reading Partners is an example of the type of program that I support making available to more Oklahoma students. Reading Partners recruits and trains community volunteers to work one-on-one with students who are a grade level or more behind in reading skills. Last year, 95% of the students enrolled in the Reading Partners program in Tulsa more than tripled their rate of learning. By signing this petition, I urge the Oklahoma legislature and Governor Fallin to support additional funding for reading interventions for struggling readers in kindergarten through fourth grade so that more Oklahoma students can have access to quality programs like Reading Partners.

The volume of support has reached a level that allows us to request a formal briefing with the legislative education committee. I am finalizing the briefing packet tonight to ensure our demands for Reading Partners funding are presented clearly at that meeting.

This is my second year as a reading partner. Watching my student transform from a quiet, timid reader into an animated and confident one has been a joy and a privilege. I wholeheartedly support The Reading partners program.
I have been a Reading Partners volunteer since September. I cannot imagine the 2nd grader I work with could get the kind of indivdiual support he needs without this program. Interventions like Reading Partners are critical if we really want to meet the goal of having all children on track to "read to learn" at the end of 3rd grade.
The Reading Partners program provides excellent curriculum that's friendly to volunteers and students, and is highly effective in improving reading skills in young readers. I've had the opportunity to tutor three students and have enjoyed seeing their growth in reading comprehension, fluidity and confidence. These kids are our state's future. Their ability to read and communicate effectively is not only important to their future, but ours as well!
I urge the Oklahoma legislature and Governer Fallin to support additional funding for reading intervention for struggling readers especially in elementery school level so that more oklahoma students can have access to quality program like reading partners. I work in the school system and I see this as a first hand awarence among the students. Your support would benefit our children and for many generation to come.
Oklahoma can no longer afford to be behind in education. Reading Partners is an evidence-based program that works by empowering community volunteers to make a difference in reading proficiency. We need your support!
The Reading Partners program is essential to supporting teachers in their efforts by providing an individual/personalized focus that each child needs to be successful in all of their academic, indeed all, life's endeavors. Your support for reading programs, innovative curricular reforms and funding for systemic and strategic changes and improvements are imperative to ensuring equity and excellence for our schools and for improving the performance and achievement of our children. Our children are our state and country's most valuable resource.
Reading Partners is an incredible program. I have been toutoring for two years and can attest to the postive impact a weekly toutoring session has on a child struggling to read. One on one time and focused lesson planning help to transform these kids into confident, attentive students with a much greater level of reading comprehension. At a critical time for public education in the state of Oklahoma, I urge you to support programs like Reading Partners as an investment in Oklahoma, both present and future.
