Local and Internationally renowned artist Stan Mullins created the sculpture. Inspired by Herschel, Mullins felt the need to honor a Hero. Mullins, longtime Athens resident and alum of UGA created "The Character of a Champion" back in 2005, it was his hope then that UGA would go on to commission other inspirations of his Alma Mater, but it seems they have dropped the ball.- With his 2015 commission for Marshall University, "Ashes to Glory", Mullins recently stated, "The road to Glory leads thru Marshall. "Lets help him rally the Bulldawg Nation and roll out "Oh You Herschel Walker!"
- At this point UGA Athletic Director Greg McGarity has applauded the individual effort but has expressed no interest in the sculpture itself.
It is interesting to note that under his tenure at the University of Florida, a sculpture of Tim Tebow was commissioned and erected on their campus.

The momentum surrounding the placement of this sculpture reflects the high regard the community holds for our history. This groundswell of interest demonstrates a clear desire to properly honor a true icon at Sanford Stadium.

Why do the gators get a statue for tebow but we cant have one for the greatest to ever suit up in red and black??? Ridiculous! Put Herschel at the stadium where he belongs.
I miss the glory days Herschel. He needs to be in front of the Stadium so that hopefully our youth will want to emulate GREATNESS! GO DAWGS!
Come on UGA make this happen! Herschel deserves his spot at Sanford Stadium

Herschel Walker is and forever will be a big part of the University of Georgia and UGA Football!!!!! He deserves a statue to be placed at Sanford Stadium!!!!!
