One in Six Canadian men have or will have prostate cancer in their lifetime. With this insidious illness, necessary treatments, such as prostatectomy, radiation and hormone therapy, men are left with irreversible erectile dysfunction. This is viewed in the medical world as a serious impairment to quality of life.
The Toronto General Hospital and other major hospitals in Toronto have clinics which specialize in and are dedicated to this serious issue. Penile Rehabilitation has become a very crucial part of a man's recovery from prostate cancer treatments. This Rehab involves the use of FDE5 inhibitors, such as Viagra, Levitra and Cialis.
The purpose of these drugs are to increase blood flow to the penis so that atrophy doesn't set in. These drugs are used in low dose format on a daily basis to ensure the health of the male anatomy and in high dose to attempt erection. Other medications used for the same purpose are injections.
Currently, these FDE5 drugs are not funded by the Ontario Governments Trillium program. Without proper functioning, men may experience anxiety, depression and feelings of hopelessness. It is a serious issue and should be seen as such. With so many men who are victims of Prostate cancer, many of them fighting to stay alive with these treatments, these high cost FDE5 drugs should be funded by our government. They are just too unaffordable by the average person to be used on a required basis for this condition! If your life has been touched by this cancer or you know of somebody who is dealing with this, or even if you just know that this can happen to you or somebody close to you one day, let's get the ball rolling to get this very serious and sensitive issue dealt with. This doesn't just effect old men. Many men get diagnosed in their 40s and 50s!
