Objection to Application for Premises Licence No. GC2267 (Block 1, 29-31 Elmfoot Grove).
Alcohol can unquestionably cause harm to individuals and society. Criminalisation of alcohol would cause crimes committed by the illicit trade, but it would address the harms associated with alcohol dependence and the misery that this can cause to families.
Scientific evidence shows alcohol is a harmful substance that can damage human health and creates harm to individuals and communities. Evidence from the ACMD is that the use of alcohol is a significant public health issue. We must make it illegal to produce, buy and sell this dangerous intoxicant
There are lot of reasons for objection, but some reasons are mentioned below.
1. Once licence is granted, it wont be easy to be revoked.
2. In case of any incident, the shopkeeper will only have to prove that he did not serve any under-ager.
3. But many kids contribute money and then try to find someone who could buy a bottle for them. They sometimes even offer extra money to folks who could buy them a drink or cigarettes.
4. Vodka could be easily mixed up with any drink and could be easily held in a bottle / can of coke or any juice. Cheap ciders and mainly buckfast are the main cause of bother as they give instant kick.
5. It is quite easy to catch the bad habits however then changing it is a big task for the parents and especially if they have another wee one to look after. (For eg., young age smoking habits)
6. Already last summer our children and their friends have noticed young crowd coming in the park and every sentence they uttered / used offensive language in it. This is not any parent would wish for their children to learn.
7. Also after the Polmadie bridge opens up, you would be having more crowd coming to take their chances.
8. All what could happen is Police will be on the round every single day, parents will no longer be having a peace of mind for when their children in the park with their friends or even think twice before using the park anymore.
9. It could also result in families not coming into this area to buy homes or stay in rental basis (in case it becomes a trouble zone) and would in-turn reduce your property / rental value.
10. Yes, most of us are matured and would not involve or encourage above said things, but who would be able to stop the out-siders and who would be keeping an eye on them all time.
11. If at all any incident takes place and if police is notified the young once are always quick enough to run away or find their way out quickly before the cops are at the scene.

The feedback regarding the risks posed by local alcohol availability has been substantial. I am currently organizing the collected objections to ensure they are presented effectively to the licensing authority.

No this shouldn't be happening, my son and daughter in-law purchased a family home there with their two young children. Toddler and baby and love playing at their local park. This would make the area unsafe for them and their welfare and safety is one of the reasons for buying there home as they were garentee this would not be allowed in the area. Very unhappy grandparents! Stop this now.
Not giving licence will help to reduce nuisance caused by antisocial elements at night
I was present at all the meetings when people wanted a newsagent shop. I was always informed by the people representing us and BY AVANT that Avant would build a shop BUT NO ALCOHOL WOULD BE SERVED
Further to the above comments there are several other licenced shops within walking distance from elmfoot grove. I do not see the need for another one to beclocated across from a small chirldrens play area.
My family moved away from the area we both grew up in in the East End of Glasgow to get away from the local alcohol prevalence between pubs/off-licences and takeaway shops and would be shocked and disappointed if my friends (who will have researched and clarified this before committing to buy in a new build area) are to be disappointed by a reversal in the commitment that was made to them before they purchased in the area. Societal alcohol in the west of Scotland is responsible for a lot of issues - these families have invested in the area on the assurance of the council that no alcohol will be for sale locally, particularly around their children-friendly areas -please do not let them down :o(
Right outside a kids play park I think it’s a Bad idea to be selling alcohol. I’ve got a 5 year old so this is important.
This is just immoral and unfair.

Can't there be one tiny section of Glasgow without somewhere to buy alcohol within a 2 minute walk? This new community needs a grocery shop, a newsagent, it does not need alcohol sales. It seems like many of the residents (my sister and brother in law included) bought their homes on the understanding there would not be alcohol sold, so the demand isn't from the local residents. As this is right across from the park it seems like you could end up turning a park for young families into a hangout for drunk teenagers, which would be awful. I know my nephew loves the park and I would hate for him to no longer be able to enjoy it.
